Scams Awareness Month May 2014
SCAMS AWARENESS MONTH 2014
Welcome to SAM14 - the Scams Awareness Month 2014 page!
What are scams? Scams are schemes to con people out of their money. Scams come in a variety of ways: post, phone, email, online, even a knock at the door. Every year more than 3 million people in the UK fall victim to scams, losing hundreds and even thousands of pounds. Read Citizens Advice's warnings and top tips here or follow the link to the scams month press release on this site. Do you want to know more? Is it a scam? What should you do next? Any questions should be directed to our Consumer Service on 08454 04 05 06.
In our final week the focus was on doorstep scams: click here for more on this, including pics of David at the Bullingdon Community Centre with Age UK Oxfordshire.
Or read Lou's blog on the 'silent victims' of scams here.
May was Scams Awareness Month. Throughout the month we were working with Trading Standards and our local CEP partners, both CABs and other agencies, to try and help consumers to protect themselves against scams. For information about events and stands in Oxfordshire, and to offer your own help, see below, or contact the CEP coordinator on 01865 304125 or davidCEP@cab-oxford.org.uk.
