The advice charity for your community
Free, confidential and impartial advice

About Oxfordshire South and Vale

We provide free, confidential and impartial advice and campaign on big issues affecting people's lives in Oxfordshire South, and Vale of White Horse.

Our goal is to help everyone find a way forward, whatever problem they face.

We're an independent charity and part of the Citizens Advice network across England and Wales.

Our main locations are at:  Abingdon, Didcot, Henley, Thame, Wallingford

And we have outreach locations at: RAF Benson, Faringdon, Woodcote,

We rely almost entirely on volunteers to provide our services.

Some of our volunteer roles are below, all of whom we support with appropriate training:

Giving advice
Volunteers who give advice to our clients are at the heart of our service and we could not manage without them. There are a variety of roles and tasks up to giving full advice.

Receptionist
Our Receptionists are the public face of every local Citizens Advice, managing ‘front-of-house’ based on the information given by the advice session supervisor.

IT Support Worker
We're ever more dependent on IT, and our volunteers play a key part in keeping out systems maintained and up to date. We use them for keeping track of cases, keeping in touch with our clients, assessing e-services on their behalf and monitoring trends.

Trustees
Trustees are volunteers who are expected to use their skills, knowledge and experience to help guide and govern their local Citizens Advice. The trustees meet in evenings, alternately at the various main locations. Marketing or fund raising experience is welcome, in this time of austerity, but also of particular value is contact and knowledge of sections of the community who are most in need of our services.

As at the start of 2018, we currently have these volunteering opportunities:

Abingdon- open to applications for new volunteer advisers

Didcot and Wallingford - open to applications for volunteer receptionists and IT support

Thame - volunteer receptionist needed on Tuesdays

Henley - no new volunteers needed at present

South and Vale - seeking additional trustees (contact the Abingdon office)

If you feel you can make a contribution to our work in any of these roles, check out our volunteering page where you can make an initial enquiry.

Friends of Citizens Advice

We have Friends groups at Abingdon, Thame and Henley, who help their local advice centre by raising funds from local traders and communities. Events for example include coffee mornings, trivia quizzes, and wine fairs.

If you'd like to help in these activities, then contact the relevant Friends group through your local office at Abingdon, Thame or Henley.
